I live in South Ascot and am very lucky to have Allen’s Field nearby. There is a proper car park now and the field, including the surrounding woods, have become a nature reserve. Lots of local flora and fauna, including dear and butterflies. There are also a collection of wooden carvings, surrounding a raised earthen and timber feature, which are interesting and a little mysterious!
Just when you thought the fun ended, you can also walk through the woods to Swinley Forest. (You will need wellies, when it has been raining a lot). Or stop for lunch! There are picnic tables and benches, making it a perfect spot of a picnic.
It is easy to find, just drive towards the rear of Ascot Station (Lyndhurst Road) take the left (on the corner by Sytners Cars), then right onto Bouldish Farm Road, take first left (becomes Liddell Way), go past the schools on your left, then turn 2nd left, sign posted, to get to the car park. On foot you can walk straight up Victoria Road and keep going straight on, past the allotments.
Great place to find a bit of peace, get some exercise, walk the dog (please keep it clean, bins provided) and watch the sunrise.
